Parents from a Telangana Village had a baby of 2 years age suffering from a swelling in the neck from one and half years and causing pressure on food and breathing pipe.They showed her in various hospitals They spent around one lakh for the investigations. It was reported as neoplastic swelling on right side of neck compressing food pipe called oropharynx and breathing pipe called trachea and laryngo pharynx. It was around 8.8 x 8.1 cms and pushed major vessels supplying head backwards. An estimate of 3 lakhs and above was given to the father and a high risk explained by a not hurt hospital which the loving father couldn’t mobilise
Worried parents and their friend took to Twitter and requested Telangana Hon. Minister Shri KTR Garu for help.Noticing that report is neoplastic the Robotic Onco Surgery Team of American Oncology Institute led by Dr. Jagdishwar Goud Gajagowni volunteered to help the family and promised the baby’s parents that AOI will do needful and will do it free.
The child was referred to our team by @office of KTR.
We examined the child and conveyed to the parents that the lesion as in the scan is compressing the major vessels supplying brain and pressing the food pipe and breathing pipe. They were told 10% risk during or after Surgery and based on final pathology further treatment will be planned.
Dr. Vijay Vemuri and Dr.Prabhakar leading management of American Oncology Institute was informed about the case and non affordability of parents. The management without asking a question readily agree to help the child and arranged every thing free including investigations,medicines,ICU,room and advanced equipment in the operation theater.
After counselling the child was taken up for surgery within 24 hours of arrival at our hospital. Anaesthesia was given by Dr. Venu Gopal Kulkarni and Dr. Aruna Reddy. Surgery was performed by Dr.Jagdishwar Goud assisted by Dr. Bala Vikas Kumar and Dr.Challa Teja.
The mass was occupying the whole of neck and pushed main vein and carotid artery’s backwards,they were dissected under magnification and preserved. The nerve which produces voice was identified and preserved .Mass separated off food pipe and breathing pipe(Pharynx & Trachea. Bleeding was secured and surgery completed satisfactorily. Patient was extubated and shifted to Peadiatrics ICU and discharged satisfactorily.
It is our honour to have operated free a 2 years child who was suffering from one and half year and we feel satisfied that we honoured the commitment to her parents
