Greetings from the Department of Surgical Oncology American Oncology Institute. Dr. Jagadishwar Goud Gajagowni with over 20 years of experience in Surgical Oncology leads the department of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery here.
Please allow me to introduce our work. Basically, 70% of our work is open surgeries as not many can afford the Robotic approach. Common cancers that are operated on daily are breast cancer, uterine cancers, thyroid neoplasms, head and neck cancers, ovarian cancer, esophageal and stomach cancers, and colorectal cancers. Other cancers like renal, prostate, sarcomas, lung cancers, Thymoma’s are also operated on here. We always prefer a minimally invasive approach for Lung cancer, Thymoma, Esophageal, Rectal, Colon, Renal, Stomach cancers. It can be VATS, laparoscopy, Total Thoracoscopy, or Robotic means.
We also have 4 K laparoscopy with excellent visualisation of cancer and its spread. With 10 times magnification we can visualise small lymph node spread and small vessels which will let’s us clear cancer
adequately and also help us in minimising trauma to patients.
We also have sentinel Lymph node biopsy facilities inside the operating Theater which will help us in identifying the spread of cancer in the breast, tongue, melanoma, etc, So if no spread is there e can avoid nodal dissection and minimize morbidity. Especially useful in breast-conserving surgery.
The frozen section that is intraoperative biopsy is available inside the operating room. This helps in identifying if we cleared the Tumor adequately by checking margins of resection and ensure that cancer is totally removed. It also helps in identifying cancer in some sits like the breast so that we can perform the cancer surgery in a single sitting instead of performing another surgery. It’s especially useful in Breats cancer, Rectal Cancer, Thyroid, Ovarian masses, sarcomas.
We have dedicated HIPEC surgery equipment which is hyperthermic intraabdominal chemotherapy at 42 degrees temperature for 90 minutes. It is major surgery usually done in Pseudo Myxomatosis Peritonei, Ovarian cancers, and Colonic cancers with the extensive spread. Our team is also trained in PIPAC therapy done in the above cases.
Lung cancers, Thymoma, Esophageal cancers are regularly operated on by minimally invasive procedures which will decrease complications in patients, less blood loss, the same cure. It will also help patients to return home early, return to work early.
A minimally invasive approach is also used in rectal cancers especially in low rectal cancers and try to avoid colostomy by operating transanally and minimally invasive methods.
Our team is trained in neck scarless thyroid, parathyroid surgeries. This is done by minimally invasive approach by axilla or transorally or from the chest wall. It’s especially useful for young or those who don’t want a scar on the neck.
Gyneac cancers when indicated are operated by a minimally invasive approach by which patients can return home earlier. Parortic and pelvic nodal dissections are done regularly here.
With a good plastic surgery department here we are able to do breast reconstruction after breast surgeries and also in inserting bone or flap in head and neck cancers like oral cancers.
Our team is the first in the Telugu States which started Robotic Surgeries. And in this regard, the new X DaVinci Robot will be installed in our Center in a weeks time. Our team has the largest number of robotic surgeries above 3,000 and especially the largest Robotic III field esophagectomies in the country. We also do Robotic thymectomy, Lung cancer surgeries, Lower colorectal cancers, Radical Hysterectomies, Radical Nephrectomy, etc., We also have large series of neck scarless thyroidectomies in the country by axillary, breast, oral approaches. Dr. Jagadshwar regularly mentors Robotic surgeries in AIIMS, SGPGI, JIPMER, and many other hospitals across the country.

International Tumor board with oncologists from the USA discussing with our oncologists about difficult cases and bettering patients results. We have house Radiation Oncologists, Medical oncologists, Hemato Oncologists, Nuclear Physicians, Onco pathologists, and radiologists who all meet in multidisciplinary Tumor boards and plan therapy for each patient on par with American standards.
